Moderator Controls

The following features are available for Moderators only. To activate the moderator features, you need to enter the Room with the Moderator Access Code included at the end of the URL rather than the Guest Access Code as shown here.

Consult the "View Links" page in the Room Administration section of this Guide, or search for "moderator access code" in the FAQ Search Library for more detailed instructions.

Polling Users

You can "Poll Users" with yes or no, true or false, or multiple choice questions. This is a great tool for online testing, business or board meetings that require votes to be cast, debates, or any hot-topic discussions. It is not only useful when it is critical to know what your guests want, it is helpful to maintain their interest during a meeting.

Using the "Selected User" Options

When the Moderator uses any of the "Selected User" menu options, these options apply only to the user the Moderator currently has selected (by clicking on their name).

Selected User -> Max Gain - If for some reason other users are having trouble hearing a particular user, the moderator can maximize the microphone "volume" gain for the selected user, or ask them to increase or decrease their microphone volume control.

Selected User -> Terminate - This option allows the Moderator to remove a user from their room. This could be used to remove someone who has been disruptive but you do not wish to permanently ban them, or it could be used to remove a non-participating party.

Selected User -> Ban - This option allows the Moderator to "BAN" a user from their Room in such a way that they cannot re-enter. The ID ban is not based upon the user's alias or their IP address, but other factors taken from their PC to create a digital fingerprint.

Once you click "OK", the offending user will see the following message.

"Banning a user" is a very serious action, and requires interaction from the Room Owner in order to remove the "Ban". To remove someone from your "Ban List", Select "View Banned List". Select the offending user, based on the name they were using when you banned them, and click "Delete".

Most of the Single User options are also available if you Right-click on a User’s name.

Using the "All Users" Option

When the Moderator uses any of the "All Users" menu options, these options apply to all users currently in the room at the time the Moderator invokes the option.

The "Mute All" feature is used when you have many people attending a presentation, with a few selected to be able to ask questions or participate in the presentation. The Room owner will give the presenters the link with the "Moderator Access Code", and then select "Mute All" when the room is filled and the presentation is ready to begin. The Moderator can manually unmute a selected user at any time.

You will notice that most of the Moderator options are activated with keyboard shortcuts which are shown in the drop-down menus, and in the Keyboard Shortcuts section of this Guide. For instance, If you depress Alt-F9, it instantly brings up the Mute options for All Users. This is usually faster than using your mouse to activate the drop down menu. Similarly, you can unmute everyone the same way.
