Options - Preferences

A variety of features can be added or modified in the Preferences section of the Options menu.

Audio Preferences

Text Preferences

The Text Alert option allows you to select various text keys to activate sounds. The most common alert is to activate a sound when ANY text is sent. This allows you to have the Room under another application, and still know when someone has sent you a text message.

Another common use is to be able to send a text alert when you have to take a phone call. If someone else is talking, you can "alert" them to the fact that you have had to take a call so they can pause and wait for you to return to the Room.

Or, if you are using your Room for stock trading, and one of your observers sends a Buy or Sell message, it can include a sound alert.

Alerts Preferences

If you have placed a check mark in the "Enable Alerts" box as in the previous screen shot, you are ready to enter the text key(s) you want to activate the audio alert(s).

The following instructions are how to enter an alert that will sound whenever ANY text is sent to you. This is accomplished by using the left bracket key "[" next to the "p" on the keyboard. Each message always begins with brackets around the name of the person sending the text message so we simply utilize it to create a text alert key.

You will notice that the instructions below use alert.wav as the Alert Sound which is automatically included in your Room download. If you want other sounds, you will need to install them in the Sound folder which is located inside the c:/Chatterbox folder.

If you want to select other text alerts, be sure to choose a text key(s) that will not be pressed in the normal course of typing. For instance, if you want to set up an alert when the phone rings, we suggest using -p- to prevent an alert every time you type a word using the letter p in it.

Emoticons Preferences

You can designate text "shortcuts" for graphic images known as Emoticons. When these shortcuts are used within the Text Chat entry section and the message is displayed, anyone with a corresponding shortcut and graphic image stored in their preferences will see it.

The following instructions are how to add an Emoticon that will appear whenever that text is sent to you.

Misc Preferences

When 'Disable Frames in Follow Me Browser' is checked, the presenting moderator sees the navigation links and the guests only see the presentation side of the framed webpage.

This allows any visitor to instantly be taken to another visitor's designated webpage anytime the "View Home Page" feature is selected by "right-clicking" on a Visitor's name. Their designated webpage will appear in a new web browser window within the Meeting Room.

Please leave the other items in the Misc. window in their default setting unless specifically instructed otherwise by Customer Service.
