Live Meetings
The cost of live meetings is very high and rising with no
end in sight. Travel, car rental, lodging, meeting room cost,
refreshments, evening entertainment, and printed handouts can
easily run over $1,500 per person for a single meeting. This
is considerably higher for international travel. Perhaps the
biggest cost is the out-of-office lost productivity during
travel. That is a major expense to both the event host and
the guests. And these costs do not factor in the risks involved in today's travel environment.
Online Competition
There are various free or advertising-supported voice products
on the web. But they are not comparable in quality and privacy.
In his published report on web conferencing products, industry
expert Robin Good specifically lists Yahoo Messenger, Net2Phone,
and Dialpad and concludes that Voxwire is "light-years
ahead in terms of audio quality and reliability."
Webex™ and Placeware™ are well-known companies
offering technology for web conferencing and online meetings.
They use the Internet to share applications and show pages.
Their flagship products
are very expensive and require the use of the telephone for
voice.
For instance, the cost of Webex’s "pay-per-use" conferencing
product is 33¢ per minute per person, plus another 20¢ per
minute for the conference call. Placeware has a "pay-per-use" product
that is 35¢ per minute per person plus the telephone bridge.
Basic event meetings cost $27 per hour per person plus $1,500
for the "Event Production Specialist" that is used
to set it up and operate the meeting, plus $600 to $1,500 per
event for Registration Services. So a 100-seat one-hour event
starts at $4,800. Their 5-seat product costs $375 per month,
not including voice, while our 10-seat Room is $37 per month INCLUDING
voice!
Referring specifically to Webex, Placeware, and other enterprise
products offering web conferencing and online meetings, Robin
Good says, "Providing Web conferencing
facilities while forcing users to utilize a separate and un-integrated
technology at very expensive long-distance rates seems to be
a strategy that is not going to work effectively for long."
