Showing Presentations

One of the most popular uses of Voxwire Online MeetingRooms is to show "slides" as part of a presentation. Our technology allows multiple methods to achieve this. Basically you can show slides that have been created in html, Microsoft PowerPoint or with other presentation media software. Please refer to the Illustrated User Guide or FAQs for instructions about how to use the "synch" and "follow me mode" moderator features when showing web pages.

Methods of showing Slides:

  1. HTML (from the web)
  2. PowerPoint (using Voxwire's Presenter Tool)

1. HTML - The best heavy-duty-use presentation slides are in html. If you are already experienced in html, this file of our own demonstration page can be downloaded to use as a sample or template. See the illustration in our User Guide for room settings if you have framed presentations and only want the right frame side to show to "guests". (Menu Command: Options > Preferences, Misc panel and check > Disable Frames in follow Me Browser)

You can convert your PowerPoint slides even without html experience by using conversion software from such places as Click-to-Convert (we've used this product ourselves), Flash Utility, or RDP Slides.

2. PowerPoint Voxwire Presenter Tool – To show your PPT files using this feature from your room menu, choose the command: Moderator > Share Presentation. To load the file, click on "upload" and browse your directory to choose the file. For subsequent uses, highlight the filename and click on "Start". See the illustrations in our User Guide for further details.

Page Loading Time
Everyone has experienced that large web pages with lots of graphics take longer to load than smaller, simpler pages. This is amplified for those using dial-up Internet connections. Showing web pages in a Voxwire Room does not speed the process up nor slow it down. Therefore, you will want to create slides that load quickly (small file-size) so that people using slow dial-up connections will not fall behind, or that page-loading will not interfere with voice delivery. If you are showing a large web page, the Presenter may need to stop talking until each guest's page has loaded. Otherwise, their computer will fight for resources and they may hear a broken voice quality. This can easily be tested prior to a meeting with someone on a dial-up connection.

Also please note, when you upload a PowerPoint presentation, it is automatically converted to a smaller size, more suitable for sharing across the Internet. This process necessarily reduces heavy graphics, so keep that in mind as you create your presentations.
