Firewalls
The MeetingRoom has exclusive technology which automatically allows the MeetingRoom to detect and compensate for virtually all firewalls and/or proxy servers. Testing shows that about 98% of all users are able to connect to the Voxwire Servers with no configuration changes on their computer or with their network settings or firewall configurations. The MeetingRoom can detect and compensate, automatically for the following, common network configurations:

  • Personal Firewalls (e.g., BlackIce, ZoneAlarm)
  • Corporate Firewalls (e.g., Checkpoint, Cisco PIX, Microsoft)
  • Protocol Aware Firewalls (e.g., Raptor, TIS, SecureIT)
  • Proxy Servers (e.g., Microsoft, Apache, Squid)
  • Automatic Proxy Configuration in the browser
  • Authenticated Connections (requiring a username and password)

Virtually all businesses in the world that have a permanent connection to the Internet have some type of firewall and/or proxy server configuration. Other VoIP products are rejected or prevented by these configurations. The Voxwire MeetingRoom is able to compensate for this limitation automatically, with no user intervention, making it a dependable business class application.

Security
The MeetingRoom does not place a "service" on your computer which a potential attacker might exploit. The MeetingRoom conforms to your local network security policy. When the MeetingRoom connects to the Voxwire Servers, it creates or initiates the network connection. The Voxwire servers do not create inbound connections to your client. The Voxwire Servers send voice data packets to your MeetingRoom which then plays those packets out through your sound card. Even if a hacker were to somehow exploit this connection, there are no commands that could be sent to your Voxwire MeetingRoom that would allow the attacker to abuse your computer or access files on your system in any way. Any file transfers or application sharing that is available in your MeetingRoom must be initiated from your computer by you at your keyboard. Protocol commands are not available that would in anyway cause a file transfer or application sharing to initiate from your computer without your approval. It is also impossible for someone to send you a file without your permission. However, if you decided to receive a file through the file transfer feature, you must trust the person who is sending you that file.

Privacy
The only way someone can listen to your conversations is if they are showing in the Room. They have to enter at least a 3-character screen name. "Invisible users" are not available or allowed in the Voxwire Servers. So no one can monitor your conversation without you knowing it. Voxwire does not record or log any of your voice or text chat conversations.

The voice packets travel around the Internet through potentially a dozen or more routers. These routers (specialized network computers), are owned and managed by any number of Internet Service Providers located along the network path between your computer and the Voxwire Servers, and are usually protected and managed by reputable businesses. If it were possible for someone to capture the voice packets it would be very technically complex to cause them to play back without very specific knowledge about how the MeetingRoom internal protocols are designed.
